The Division of Organism & Environment within the Department researches organisms and their populations to understand origins, functions, diversity and sustainability to provide a basis for addressing existing and future challenges like loss of biodiversity.  Research areas include using ecological principles to manage sustainable agro-ecosystems that are both productive and natural resource conserving.  Current research projects include agricultural landscape ecology such as use of biological corridors in pest management and summer cover crops on pest populations. 

The School of Agriculture consists of seven Departments: Animal Production; Agricultural Economics; Hydraulics, Soil Science and Agricultural Engineering; Food Science and Technology; Field Crops and Ecology; Horticulture and Viticulture; Plant Protection. Alternative farming practices and organic farming are two themes among the different research activities of the School of Agriculture.

The Department focuses on baking, feed, and milling science and management.  The website does not note any current work around organic post harvest processes, but the Department has previously showed interest in the area.

The Department uses landscape to regenerate and conserve urban and rural environments.  Research focuses on urban ecological landscape design and management, including the role of sustainable planting design in urban environments and green roof ecology, and the planning and management of rural and peri-urban landscapes, such as the role of urban green infrastructure in urban regeneration.

The Department focuses on investigating ecological processes operating at the level of ecosystems and population/species and the interactions at both levels.  Ecosystem research within the Department looks at the forest ecosystem and responses to forest cutting; land-use changes; the impacts of the introduction of plants; and the maintenance of wetland biodiversity when land is used for agriculture. 

The department mandate is to carry out multidisciplinary research, training and extension aimed at creation and dissemination of scientific knowledge of organic agriculture based on principles of ecology, health, fairness and care; evolving organic management strategies for major insect-pests, diseases & nematodes of cereals, pulses, oilseeds, vegetables, potato, etc.; standardization of organic fertilization for various crops of the region for yield maximization; training of human resource for expansion of organic farming in the state; advisory services on organic farming to officials, farmers and entrepreneurs.

The Department conducts research on societal development.  Recent projects include studies on marketing vegetables through urban and peri-urban agriculture; integrating urban agriculture in land use planning; ensuring health and food safety from waste water irrigation; and malaria risk resulting from urban agriculture. 

NERI is part of Aarhus University. NERI undertakes scientific consultancy work, monitoring of nature and the environment as well as applied and strategic research. NERI’s task is to establish a scientific foundation for environmental policy decisions. Organic farming and developing methods for environmentally responsible pest control in Africa are major themes in the Department of Terrestrial Ecology.

DMAP (formerly the National Research Centre for Medicinal and Aromatic Plants) was established by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research to carry out research on MAPs and share research findings with the private sector, non-governmental organisations and farmers.  In the past, DMAP has completed research on organic mulching, the testing of biodynamic/organic preparations and the influence of organic farming on specific MAPs.  The Directorate also houses the All India Networking Research Project on Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (AINRPMAP) and All India Networking Research Project on Betelvine (AINRPB), which act as national outreach programmes.

DOAM seeks to coordinate programs and activities for the holistic development of the local organic industry and assist various organic oriented organizations related to the sustainable development of the Industry in Dominica. They achieve this mission by producing, promoting and facilitating the production of organic agricultural; establishing with all relevant national authorities and in the public mind the recognition that organic productions provides an excellent opportunity for a sustainable agricultural diversification; promoting the development of a sustainable organic industry whereby the use of local natural resources is made safe and cost effective.
