The Jamaica Organic Agriculture Movement is a non-profit, non-governmental organization created to foster an organic agriculture industry in Jamaica. The JOAM's mission is to facilitate the development of a sustainable and economically viable organic agriculture sector in Jamaica while maintaining organic integrity, promoting health, environmental consciousness, and social responsibility. The objectives include: lobby for and assist in the development of an effective local organic agriculture industry; assist local producers who are interested in the conversion to and certification in organic agriculture.

Johann Heinrich von Thünen Institute (vTI), Federal Research Institute for Rural Areas, Forestry and Fisheries

The vTI is part of the German Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection. The goal of the Institute of Organic Farming is to optimize process and product quality in organic crop production. Studies at the Institute are in the fields of organic husbandry, organic crop production and organic pasture management.

KAITE Company

KAITE is a private company engaged in social entrepreneurship in Zimbabwe and Germany.  It works in the cultivation, production, authentication, processing, exportation and marketing of organic products, with an emphasis on herbs, spices, MAPs and staple foods.  KAITE is actively engaged in training partner farmers in organic agriculture and coordinating social development projects for rural communities involved.  Currently, it is conducting research on pollutants and land degradation through organic production, wild collection, organic oils and herbs.

KEFRI’s mission is to conduct research and provide technologies for sustainable development of forest and other natural resources.  The Institute has seven research programmes: Farm Forestry, Natural Forests, Dryland Forests, Industrial Forest Plantations, Tree Seeds, Service and Technology Dissemination, and Partnerships and Networks.  KEFRI is not directly involved in organics research, but has partnered with other organizations working on organic agriculture.

Kenya Institute of Organic Farming (KIOF)

KIOF is an NGO operating through Kenya and the Eastern Africa region.  The Institute’s vision is to achieve communities that are empowered with the skills and knowledge of organic farming to support sustainable rural livelihoods.  KIOF promotes organic agriculture with a focus on youth, women, and self-help farming groups by training smallholder farmers in organic farming methods using locally available resources.  Its techniques involve choice of crop, composting, planting systems, crop storage, animal husbandry, crop protection and soil conservation.

Kerala Agricultural University

Kerala Agricultural University seeks to provide the resources required for the sustainable development of agriculture.  Research at the University is focused on increasing the productivity of crops, livestock, and fish grown in the state of Kerala.  Given the high rainfall level of the state, much of it is considered humid areas.  In each of the University’s six research stations, a system approach incorporating crop, livestock, forestry, and fishery activities guides its research.

Laboratory of Agribusiness Management, Agricultural University of Athens

The Laboratory undertakes application management-related research in agri-food enterprises and farm holdings.  One of the Laboratory’s areas of expertise is understanding consumer behaviour towards purchase of organic food and wine products.  In the past several projects on the marketing of organic products have been undertaken.
