Swedish Herbal Institute (SHI)

SHI, originally created as a non-profit research organisation, is today a research and development company.  SHI maintains one of the largest private libraries of phytomedicine and medicinal plants in the world including scientific publications, monographs and scientific journals.  In addition, SHI has translated a large number of scientific publications in various languages into English.

Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC)

SDC is Switzerland’s international cooperation agency.  It is responsible for coordination of development activities and cooperation with Eastern Europe, as well as for the humanitarian aid delivered by the Swiss Confederation.  Agriculture and Rural Development is a theme within SDC’s work and they are a major stakeholder in international mountain projects, including SARD-M.

Swiss Association for International Cooperation (Helvetas)

Helvetas has been working to support organic cotton production around the world for over ten years.  The organisation has projects in Mali, Burkina Faso, Senegal, Kyrgyzstan and Benin.  These projects consist of local research, education, partnership building and support with certification.

TP Organics

TP Organics is a platform for organic food and farming research which joins the efforts of industry and civil society in defining organic research priorities and defending them vis-à-vis the policy-makers. The Vision of TP Organics reveals the huge potential of the organic food production to mitigate some of the major global problems of the century from climate change, to food security, to the whole range of socio-economic challenges in the rural areas. It also arguments the need for more research in specific priority areas and therefore for more research funding.

TOAM is the registered association of organic producers in Tanzania.  Its mission is to coordinate and facilitate stakeholders’ initiatives in tapping the potential of organic agriculture to improve livelihoods.  It provides organic producers with information, facilitates market linkages, and creates awareness on organic standards and technical back-stopping.

Terranostra is an association promoting agricultural tourism and the rural environment.  It provides support and assistance for farmers who wish to start new or improve existing tourist aspects on their farms.  Terranostra also promotes initiatives that provide cultural exchange between rural and urban areas.

The African Organic Farming Foundation (AOFF)

AOFF was founded in 2001 and has 501 member organisations. AOFF's mission is to reduce poverty among Southern Africa's rural communities through the introduction of organic farming, better nutrition, agro-enterprise development and management of natural resources. AOFF's Marketing and Agro-Business Development (MAED) Program is a market-led, trade capacity building partnership that facilitates the inclusion of the resource-poor in organic production and trade by linking small farmers with markets to improve nutrition, food security, incomes and community decision making.

The International Federation of Essential Oils and Aroma Trades (IFEAT)

The principle aims of IFEAT are to promote international collaboration, encourage good practice, disseminate information and organize forums for discussion.  Membership is open to all companies dealing in essential oils and aroma trades, including companies involved in the organic market.  IFEAT members have ability to download past conference proceedings, use of the IFEAT Conciliation Service, access a number of useful industry resources online, as well as IFEAT Newsletters.

The Mountain Institute (TMI)

TMI aims to empower mountain communities and conserve mountain ecosystems.  The Institute is headquartered in Washington D.C., but has offices across the Americas and Asia.  TMI’s primary efforts are in implementing social and environmental programs in mountain communities and regions.  The group is not currently engaged in work around agriculture.

The Organic Center

The Organic Centre brings together scientists in the organic agriculture field to research issues related to organic agriculture and its products.  To date, the Center has contracted projects on organic farming, soil health, and the nutritive quality of food.  The website includes a large number of publications on the topic.
