Agro Eco Louis Bolk Institute

Agro Eco Louis Bolk Institute conducts research on organic agriculture, nutrition and health care and engages in knowledge transfer in Africa.  The Institute, which is based in the Netherlands, has two regional offices in Africa to engage in research and information dissemination around tropical organic agriculture: Eastern Africa (Uganda) and West Africa (Ghana).  Research at the Institute is divided into four thematic areas: Human, Animal, Plant and Soil.  Current studies include organic productivity trials using different pest and disease management strategies; organic cotton staple length trials; studies on organic livestock rearing techniques; research on the nutritional and health attributes of organic food; and work in support of organic social impact research.

BioTrade Initiative, United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD)

Since its launch in 1996, the UNCTAD BioTrade Initiative has been promoting sustainable biotrade in support of the objectives of the Convention on Biological Diversity. The Initiative has developed a unique portfolio of regional and country programmes.

BioTrade is concerned with the production or collection and commercialization of goods and services that are derived from native biodiversity: the vast array of plants, species and organisms on our planet. This includes trade in products that come from genetic resources, species and ecosystems and that are used in line with environmental, social and economic sustainability criteria.

Since 2003 the BioTrade Initiative has also hosted the BioTrade Facilitation Programme (BTFP) which focuses on enhancing sustainable bio-resources management, product development, value adding processing and marketing

Biological Farming Association Elkana

The Biological Farming Association "Elkana" is a Georgian association interested in the development of organic farming in the country, as well as the protection of the environment. "Elkana" aims at the improvement of the socio-economic conditions of the population of Georgia and the environmental protection through fostering the development of sustainable organic farming and increasing the self-reliance of the rural population.

Countryside and Community Research Institute (CCRI)

The Countryside and Community Research Institute (CCRI) is the largest specialist rural research centre in the UK. It has expertise in all aspects of research in policy and planning for the countryside and the environment of the UK, Europe and further afield. The CCRI aims to build on existing expertise in all four institutions, strengthening regional partnerships. It intends to have a clear client-led focus in the conduct of applied research, postgraduate education, continuing professional training, knowledge exchange and consultancy. "Socio-economic aspects of local and national organic farming markets" and "Characterization of markets for organic goods" are two examples of research projects related to organic agriculture carried out by the institute.

Danish Institute for International Studies (DIIS)

DIIS is an independent research institution engaged in research and dissemination in international affairs.  The Institute is involved in a number of studies on agriculture.  Among these, DIIS is working on the ICROFS partnership study, GLOBAL-ORG, which analyses the institutional conditions under which certified organic agriculture develops in the South.

Environmental Sciences Research Institute (ESRI), Shahid Beheshti University

Established in 2001, the ESRI aims to carry out research on the various aspects of the environment. Many qualified professors in Biology, Chemistry, Law, etc. at Shahid Beheshti University collaborate with the work of the Institute. ESRI offers Master and Ph.D. degrees in Environmental Sciences. One of the research objectives of the Institute is studying economic factors related to bio-environmental research.
