Identifying new opportunities in FATA

Ms. Minà Dowlatchahi FAO Representative during her visit to Peshawar met with Mr. Islam Zeb, Director General at the Directorate of Projects FATA Secretariat.

Appreciating the role of FAO in FATA Mr. Islam Zeb said “FATA has a unique set of challenges in the whole country both in terms of developmental status as well as suffering in the recent times. FAO has extended excellent support to these areas in resettlement of the returning TDPs and ensuring resumption of livelihood activities and help bring stability.

Ms. Minà Dowlatchahi acknowledged the crucial support from the FATA Secretariat in enabling FAO to deliver support to FATA TDPs. She also offered technical assistance from FAO the Ten Years Accelerated Development Plan. She also offered full support to FATA Reforms process especially in the area of Land Settlement.

In a separate meeting at the FATA Secretariat, Mr. Abdul Latif, Secretary Livelihood and Production apprised Ms. Minà Dowlatchahi of the existing opportunities in the development of the fruit value chain and identified reduction in post-harvest losses as an area that needed attention.

Ms. Minà Dowlatchahi FAO Representative appreciating the clear line of priorities stressed the need for sustainable efforts in the agriculture sector to improve the food systems in the wake of threats from Climate Change. She also suggested focusing on One-Health agenda to improve food security and nutrition in the area.
