Launching ACWA: A Climate Resilience Initiative in Punjab

26/06/2024

Florence Rolle, FAO's Country Representative in Pakistan, and Barrister Nabeel Ahmad Awan, Chairman of Punjab's Planning and Development Board, marked a significant milestone by signing a Letter of Intent to establish the Agriculture Climate Water Portal (ACWA). This collaborative initiative between FAO-UN and Punjab is designed to tackle the adverse effects of climate change on agriculture and water resources. By providing timely and reliable information to government agencies, the ACWA Portal empowers decision-makers to formulate strategies for sustainable agriculture and water management, essential for the region's resilience in the face of climate challenges.
This partnership underscores the commitment to harnessing technology and fostering inter-agency collaboration for climate resilience in Punjab. Through the ACWA Portal, Punjab aims to mitigate climate change impacts on agriculture, food security, and rural livelihoods, ensuring a more sustainable and prosperous future for its people.
Letter of intent signing ceremony was held in Lahore. This activity was held under the Transforming the Indus Basin with Climate Resilient Agriculture and Water Management funded by the Green Climate Fund (GCF).
