FAO launches its First e-Learning Course on Pakistan Dietary Guidelines for Better Nutrition

14/02/2020

The FAO Representation in Pakistan has developed its first self-paced e-learning course available through email. The Pakistan Dietary Guidelines for Better Nutrition (PDGN) e-learning course is based on the PDGN publication, prepared jointly by the Government of Pakistan Planning Commission Nutrition Section and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations Pakistan.
The e-learning course was developed for university students and faculty, national multisector nutrition policy formulators and professionals, and the general public. The course provides comprehensive country specific guidelines for adopting healthy eating practices to prevent and reduce malnutrition, nutritional deficiencies and chronic diseases.
The Dietary Guidelines present the basic concepts of daily nutrition in Pakistan. They provide age and gender-appropriate and culturally acceptable options for choosing nutritious foods that meet daily physical requirements. The course is divided into four main Topics and uses interactivity to keep the Learner actively engaged:
•    Topic 1: The Importance of Nutrition

•    Topic 2: Dietary Guidelines for healthy nutrition

•    Topic 3: Nutritional Needs and Diet

•    Topic 4: Other Factors That Affect Health

Launched in English, the Urdu version of the e-Learning course will be available in first quarter 2020.
FAO resource partners, JICA and USAID, who support agriculture and food and nutrition security programmes, have been instrumental in the realization of this course.

Registration is required to receive the course files. Please go to the e-Learning page and complete the web form.
