Pakistan Dietary Guidelines for Better Nutrition.

The FAO Pakistan Office has launched its first ever e-Learning course on the Pakistan Dietary Guidelines for Better Nutrition.

This is a self-paced e-learning course available free of charge by registering via email. The course has been developed for university students and faculty, national nutrition policy formulators and professionals in the food security sectors, and the general public.

Using interactivity, the course, divided into four main Topics, will keep you actively engaged as it introduces the basic concepts of daily nutrition in Pakistan. The course will guide you through easy to follow and friendly lessons in each Topic. At the end of the course you will be able to assess your overall understanding of the Guidelines. You may stop the course at any time and resume where you left off.

Course objectives:
 
After taking this course, you will:
 
•    Understand how optimal nutrition and an active lifestyle improve the quality of life
•    Understand and practice a healthy diet to reduce and control nutritional deficiencies and diseases
•    Understand the importance of food/water safety and hygiene in handling food
•    Understand how physical activity can lead to a healthy lifestyle

Topics covered:
 
•    Topic 1: The Importance of Nutrition
Ensuring good nutrition and following an active lifestyle can prevent many chronic diseases and medical conditions arising from nutritional deficiencies.
 
•    Topic 2: Dietary Guidelines for Pakistan
The Pakistan Dietary Guidelines for Better Nutrition (PDGN) are comprehensive country-specific guidelines for the general public; to adopt healthy eating habits and prevent and reduce the risk of infectious and chronic diseases.
 
•    Topic 3: Nutritional Needs and Diet
Nutritional requirements vary by age and gender. If these requirements are not met, malnutrition and other medical conditions can result.
 
•    Topic 4: Other Factors That Affect Health
While a healthy diet is extremely important for good health, other factors also affect health.

Assessment:
At the end of the course you will take a short quiz of ten scored questions to check how well you have understood the content.
