Advancing on green policies for agrifood systems transformation in Armenia

FAO LEAP highlights from the FAO Regional Conference on Green Agriculture in Yerevan, Armenia.

The Secretariat of the FAO LEAP Partnership presented its missions and impacts during the FAO Regional Conference on Green Agriculture in Yerevan, Armenia. This hybrid event gathered government officials, policymakers, researchers, scientists, and farmers to discuss green policies for transforming agrifood systems in Europe and Central Asia.

The conference defines green agriculture as the integration of environmentally sustainable practices into agrifood system policies, aiming to transform these systems for food security. Green agriculture intersects with economic, environmental, and social dimensions of sustainability, thereby advancing multiple Sustainable Development Goals.

FAO LEAP at the Regional Conference  

The FAO LEAP Partnership continues to develop technical guidelines for environmental assessments that improve the sustainability of livestock systems across regions worldwide. The Regional Conference highlighted the FAO LEAP Partnership’s strong collaboration with Europe and Central Asia. This included gathering experts for the 2023 FAO LEAP training on the quantitative assessment of livestock's impacts on biodiversity in Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Türkiye, and Uzbekistan. This successful collaboration and next steps will be celebrated and discussed during the FAO LEAP Annual Meeting 2024, which will be held on 15 July at FAO Headquarters in Rome, Italy.

About the event

During the Regional Conference, attendees shared their experiences and assessed the current state of green innovation, technology, and policies in Europe and Central Asia. Throughout this event, participants engaged in an in-depth exploration of green agricultural policies.
