The FAO LEAP Partnership Secretariat is pleased to introduce its newest members: the Institute of Feed Research of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences; Compassion in World Farming; and the Environmental Defense Fund.

Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences

Established in 1991 in Beijing, the Institute of Feed Research of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences is the national research institute dedicated to animal nutrition and feed sciences. It specializes in developing new feed resources and additives, advancing feed processing technology, ensuring quality control, promoting sustainable animal products, and offering industry training and education. The institute employs renowned scientists and graduate students, significantly contributing to livestock production and national food safety. The institute participates in FAO’s Technical Cooperation Programme for low-carbon dairy farming in the Karst ecosystem of the Chinese province of Yunnan. It has recently signed a co-publishing agreement with FAO to translate some of the FAO LEAP resources into Chinese.

Compassion in World Farming

Compassion in World Farming (CIWF) is a farmer-founded non-governmental organization dedicated to promoting a healthier, more sustainable, and higher welfare existence for animals, humans, and the planet. Operating globally, CIWF works at the critical science-policy interface, collaborating with governments, academics, civil society, and other stakeholders. Its goal is to develop solutions that support nature-positive, climate-resilient, fair, and humane livestock production systems, aligning with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Paris Agreement. CIWF is keen to work with FAO LEAP's partners to discover and share sustainable livestock practices for better production, better nutrition, a better environment, and a better life for all, leaving no one behind.

Environmental Defense Fund

The Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) is a world’s leading nonprofit organization dedicated to creating transformational solutions to pressing environmental challenges. EDF focuses on climate-smart agriculture to raise productivity, enhance climate resilience, and reduce net greenhouse gas emissions. Known for its expertise in global warming, ecosystem restoration, and human health, EDF advocates for nonpartisan, market-based solutions that are scientifically sound and economically viable. By joining the FAO LEAP Partnership, EDF aims to support food security and economic development while contributing to the creation of methodologies for quantifying the environmental impacts of global livestock supply chains.
