Canada is one of FAO’s key resource partners in the fight to end hunger. In 2016, it was one of the organization’s top ten contributors. Canada’s assistance has strongly focused on three priority areas: increasing food security, stimulating sustainable economic growth, and securing the future of children and youth, which are well aligned with FAO’s strategic objectives. In January 2017, during the G20 meeting of agriculture ministers in Berlin, Canada emphasized its full support to fostering sustainability and advancing innovation to bolster food security.

Increasing the resilience of communities in francophone Africa
In view of the Université de Liège’s (ULiège) widely-recognized valuable contributions of scientific research and education in the areas of FAO’s mandate, both institutions have agreed to formalize a partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The MoU is accompanied by a three-year work programme providing a framework for cooperation with the overall goal of increasing resilience of communities in francophone Africa.
The signing event of the Memorandum of Understanding was held at ULiège on 3 October 2017 in the presence of Cristina Amaral, Director of the FAO Belgium Liaison Office, and Albert Corhay, Rector of the Université de Liège.

A kenya delegation discuss with Indonesia goverment official about food security in their country
A High-level delegation from Kenya visits Indonesia to learn about its decentralized governance structure facilitated by FAO South-South Cooperation.
An eight member Kenyan delegation led by Muo Hamisi Williams, the Technical Advisor to the Cabinet Secretary participated in a one-week study tour to Indonesia to learn about the country’s experience, best practices and lessons learnt from Food Security and Nutrition policy planning and implementation within a decentralized governance system.
