A new regional program will support the most vulnerable communities in the Central American Dry Corridor and the arid zones of the Dominican Republic to face the effects of climate change and increase their resilience. The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) provided USD2 million for the program’s formulation under a framework agreement signed yesterday with the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

La consultation annuelle avec la délégation norvégienne s’est tenue le 19 mai 2017 au siège de la FAO à Rome. La FAO a reconnu la contribution très généreuse de 45 millions USD destinée à l’exploitation du nouveau navire de recherche Dr Fridtjof Nansen. La FAO et la Banque mondiale renforcent leur coopération visant à mettre un terme à la faim et à la pauvreté à l'échelle mondiale et nationale. Sa mission consiste à explorer l'un des océans les plus méconnus de la planète, à l'aide de technologies de pointe et d'équipements sophistiqués, afin d'aider les pays en développement à réunir les données scientifiques essentielles à la gestion durable des pêches et à étudier la manière dont le changement climatique affecte nos océans.

FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva completed on Thursday 9 March a two-day visit to Egypt aiming at boosting collaboration between the Organization and the most populous Arab Country.  His visit included meetings with the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, H.E. Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, the Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation H.E. Abdel Moneim Al-Banna, the Minister for Investment and International Cooperation H.E. Sahar Nasr, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs H.E. Sameh Shoukry, as well as the Secretary General of the League of Arab States H.E. Ahmad Abou El-Gheit.

A high-level conference in Belgrade today marks the first stage in a recently-begun four-year commitment on the part of FAO. A project worth US$3.75 million, financed by the Global Environment Facility, or GEF, is directed towards the long-term sustainability of forest ecosystems in Serbia.
