These reports detail evidence and data of long-term changes in the drylands of Eastern Africa and the implications of these for efforts to strengthen resilience within pastoral systems. A new framework and approach - Pastoralist Livelihood Systems Analysis - has been used to analyse the dynamics and impacts of change over time in five pastoral systems in the region: the Somali zone of Ethiopia, the Borana Plateau in southern Ethiopia, the South Rift Valley in Kenya, the Karamoja region of Uganda, and Bahr al Ghazal in South Sudan. The studies are based on a review of over 400 scholarly and grey literature reports, as well as assessment of over 100 data-sets from the region.

The sub-group "Pastoralism" of SDC’s Agriculture and Food Security Network carried out a process of capitalising on experiences related to core challenges in supporting pastoral development in Africa. As a key output, a series of briefs on priority themes have been produced. These are complemented by a multimedia story of the process. Experience capitalization can serve as a good practice for cross-country and cross-regional learning processes.
