This guidebook presents a module template for including livestock in multi-topic and agricultural household surveys in low- and middle-income countries. This practical tool helps survey practitioners collect data on the role of livestock in the household economy and its contribution to livelihoods. The data will assist in generating statistics on the smallholder livestock sector—from herd size and composition to husbandry and production practices, from meat, milk, and egg production to livestock income. These statistics represent the backbone for effective livestock-sector policies and investments.

The first edition of a biannual magazine supported by the Karamoja Development Forum, this publication gives a glimpse into the life of a Karamajong herder. It compiles essays, opinion pieces and articles by individuals who come from the Karamoja region of Uganda, spanning pertinent issues such as climate change, resilience, trans-border migration, livestock economy and adapted technologies. As Karamoja emerges from the shadows of decades-long armed conflict, the magazine serves to give a voice to the previously voiceless, and shine the spotlight on pastoralism once again.
