FAO Philippines Head, Australian Ambassador talk strengthening partnership at courtesy meet

In her first courtesy meeting to Australian Ambassador to the Philippines, His Excellency Steven J. Robinson AO, FAO Philippines head Ms Kati Tanninen discussed potential areas of further collaboration between FAO and Australia in initiatives in the country.

In a courtesy meeting on 14 May with His Excellency Steven J. Robinson AO, Australian Ambassador to the Philippines, FAO Philippines' team led by head Ms Kati Tanninen talks about further strengthening ties between FAO and long-standing partner Australia in development projects in the country.

Accompanying Ms Tanninen at the courtesy meet were Assistant FAO Representative for Programme, Ms Tamara Palis-Duran, and National Project Development and Coordination Specialist, Ms Maria Ruzella Quilla.


Among areas of further collaboration explored includes shock-responsive social protection, improving land governance in agriculture, disaster risk reduction and mitigation, climate-change action, and humanitarian response.

Past FAO initiatives supported by Australia include a project with the Community and Family Services International (CFSI) for the rehabilitation of Marawi and its surrounding communities, with funding provided by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), as well as a joint FAO-World Food Programme (WFP) project to respond to the needs of affected farming communities by Typhoon Mangkhut (Ompong), also funded by DFAT.

Currently, FAO is implementing a DFAT-funded joint initiative with WFP to respond to the needs of affected farming communities by Typhoon Vamco (Ulysses).
