FAO and the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), led by Ms Kati Tanninen, FAO Philippines Head, and Secretary Karl Chua, NEDA Chief, respectively, met virtually to discuss the direction for strategic partnership of the two agencies in the Philippines. At the virtual discussions, the two agencies highlighted the importance of innovation to boost the development of the agriculture sector, among others.

At the 17 November virtual meet, the agencies also talked about the upcoming Mid-Term updating of FAO's Country Programming Framework (CPF) 2018-2024 for the Philippines. This is to ensure the alignment of FAO initiatives with latest government priorities for the development of the agriculture, fisheries and environment and natural resources sectors of the country.

The CPF defines the technical cooperation priorities for 2018-2024 of the partnership between FAO and the national government anchored in the priorities and development thrusts enunciated in the Philippine Development Plan.

The partnership with NEDA is crucial in the implementation of the CPF, as the agency is regarded as the country’s premier socioeconomic planning body and authority in macroeconomic forecasting and policy analysis and research, providing high-level advice to policymakers in Congress and the Executive Branch.
