Exotic fruit fly surveillance in the Richmond area Kwazulu Natal South Africa

As part of the WTO STF and EDF11 SADC FAO projects traps for to detect Bactrocera dorsalis and Zeugodacus cucurbitae is placed in different locations in South Africa. The avocado production area in Richmond Kwazulu Natal was chosen to determine if B. dosalis occurs in low prevelance numbers and to confirm the absence of Z. cucurbitae. A handover event in the field while cunducting fruit fly surveillance was carried out to provide the Provincial Department of Agriculture with traps and lures for Spodoptera fruguperda, Tuta absoluta and Bactrocera dorsalis and yellow cards to detect possible vectors ofr maize lethal necrosis.
