08/07/2024

Motshekile Mlalazi is a farmer from the Gokwe region of Zimbabwe. In a new FAO video, she speaks about her approach to the cultivation of maize, sorghum and other crops.

“With agroecology we have learned that biodiversity helps us by providing solutions to production challenges and provides a variety of services from nature to people,” she says.

“Women’s Knowledge - Seeds of Wisdom" is this second video in a three-part series entitled “Women and Agroecology,” which looks at the contributions of women to sustainable agricultural practices.

In Gokwe, in northern Zimbabwe, farmers have been instrumental in shaping nature positive and agroecological practices  for generations. Through their dedication and innovative approaches, women farmers have not only preserved biodiversity but also promoted sustainable farming techniques over time.

With a focus on empowerment, this video draws attention to the wisdom passed down through generations of women farmers.
