World Pulses Day, celebrated annually on 10 February, marks a significant commitment to sustainable agriculture and nutrition, highlighting the crucial role pulses play in sustainable agrifood systems. There are numerous types of pulses differing in local significance and with a total global production of 96 million tons per year; the most common being beans, chickpeas and peas.

FAO will host a global celebration on Thursday, 8 February 2024, at 12.30-14.30 (CET), that is open to everyone. Participants will hear about how pulses contribute to healthy soils, resilient, sustainable agrifood systems and human nutrition.

This year, the theme is: “Pulses: nourishing soils and people”.

FAO champions this initiative, emphasizing the importance of pulses in healthy diets and resilient agrifood systems, not only to raise public awareness, but to advocate for sustainable pulse production and consumption.

The World Pulses Day website has been launched to promote the international Day – a platform designed to make it easy and fun for everyone to get involved.
