The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the World Food Programme (WFP) are jointly launching the e-learning course on Food Loss Analysis.

This free e-learning course sets the basis for a method for identifying the causes of food loss and the critical loss points in a food supply chain, so as to recommend feasible solutions to reduce food losses. This course is targeted towards professionals who want to design, organize, coordinate and implement a food loss analysis - in particular field level programme officers and technical advisors.

This course was developed in the framework of the joint Rome-based Agencies’ project, titled “Mainstreaming food loss reduction initiatives for smallholders in food deficit areas”supported by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). It responds to the need for a holistic and multidisciplinary approach to analyse the causes of food loss in supply chains and as a basis for identifying solutions that are technically, economically and socially appropriate to address them. It also builds on the results and feedback from more than eighty case studies carried out by FAO in different countries.
