Fall Armyworm (FAW) continues to spread into new territory, moving further east and north in Asia, as well as north from sub-Saharan Africa. The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World 2019 is an important measure of global progress towards the Sustainable Development Goal of Zero Hunger. It gives an updated estimate of the number of hungry people in the world, including regional and national breakdowns, and the latest data on child stunting and wasting as well as on adult and child obesity. The report also offers analysis of the drivers of hunger and malnutrition, and this year includes a special focus on the impact of economic slowdowns and downturns. Meeting the global food demand in 2050 requires increasing the global food production by 50 percent. This intensification will need to be achieved in alignment with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.   

An online repository of National Food-based Dietary Guidelines for experts and FAO staff working on public food and nutrition, health and agricultural policies, and nutrition education programmes to foster healthy eating habits and lifestyles. The online platform also provides a vast array of examples for countries that need to develop or update their national food-based dietary guidelines.

An online tool comprising a library of training manuals to assist extension workers, project managers and local SMEs to understand whether a product is potentially eligible for protection under geographical indications and work towards the recognition of such label and promotion.

This platform provides free access to latest data on individual food consumption based on national and small-scale surveys, as well as a variety of indicators. It aims to help policy makers and program planners in making informed decisions for better nutrition and food safety.

In October 2019, the IsDB and FAO Regional Office for the Near East and North Africa partnered to deliver the first Regional Workshop on Climate-Smart Agriculture in the NENA region. The IsDB now aims to ensure that all their offices are aware of CSA and are able to make investments that meaningfully take CSA and its principles into account.
