WaPOR, remote sensing for water productivity

Achieving Food Security in the future while using water resources in a sustainable manner is a major challenge for us and the next generations. Agriculture is a key water user. A careful monitoring of water productivity in agriculture and exploring opportunities to increase it are required. But how can we monitor the performance of water use in agriculture? FAO has developed a publicly accessible near real time database using satellite data that allows monitoring of agricultural water productivity.

AIDmonitor

AIDmonitor gathers information from diverse databases to help users analyze Official Development Assistance (ODA) flows with a focus on Food Security, Nutrition, Agriculture and Rural Development, determine priorities for assistance and formulate resource mobilization strategies. AIDmonitor takes into account only commitments, without including negative (aggregate) re-allocations to the donor country. This might generate a discrepancy with the ODA CRS on the total value for donor, without influencing any other result.

A multi-billion-dollar opportunity – Repurposing agricultural support to transform food systems

Public support mechanisms for agriculture in many cases hinder the transformation towards healthier, more sustainable, equitable, and efficient food systems, thus actively steering us away from meeting the Sustainable Development Goals and targets of the Paris Agreement. This report sets out the compelling case for repurposing harmful agricultural producer support to reverse this situation, by optimizing the use of scarce public resources, strengthening economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, and ultimately driving a food systems transformation that can support global sustainable development commitments. The report provides policymakers with an updated estimate of past and current agricultural producer support for 88 countries, projected [...]
