Using seasonal forecasts to support farmer adaptation to climate risks. FAO Agricultural Development Economics Policy Brief 14
The brief uses a unique set of data from Zambia collected from smallholders before and after the 2015/2016 ENSO event, which was widely anticipated by regional and global forecast services to contribute to dry conditions in southern Zambia and an overall shorter growing season. Three findings emerge from the analysis. Farmers receiving seasonal weather forecasts are more likely to adopt cropping systems and seed varieties that are adapted to the expected weather conditions, yet access to weather information remains limited. Improved charcoal technologies and briquette production from woody residues in Malawi
The purpose of this case study is to present a range of bioenergy supply chains and look at how to assess the potential within the chains based on the Bioenergy and Food Security (BEFS) Approach and BEFS Rapid Appraisal tools. The case study has been developed for training purposes, to illustrate the BEFS approach and tools and how they are applied and to present a number of examples of bioenergy supply chains found in countries where BEFS has supported national stakeholders.

Climate change and rice economy in Asia: Implications for trade policy. Background paper for The State of Agricultural Commodity Markets (SOCO) 2018
The present study analyses rice economy in Asia in the context of climate change. Major rice producing and trading countries are included in the analysis. The main focus of the study is on the existing policy framework in these major countries, with particular focus on the role of trade policy in adapting to and mitigating the adverse impacts of climate change on the rice economy. Food Outlook Biannual Report on Global Food Markets
Food Outlook is published by the Trade and Markets Division of FAO under Global Information and Early Warning System (GIEWS). It is a biannual publication focusing on developments affecting global food and feed markets. Each report provides comprehensive assessments and short term forecasts for production, utilization, trade, stocks and prices on a commodity by commodity basis and includes feature articles on topical issues. Food Outlook maintains a close synergy with another major GIEWS publication, Crop Prospects and Food Situation, especially with regard to the coverage of cereals.

Climate is an essential input to agricultural production. Changes in climate will inevitably have an impact on agricultural productivity, output, farm incomes and prices. Elevated temperatures will also affect human and animal health. To date, most of the studies of climate impacts on agriculture have ignored the impacts on humans and livestock, focusing instead on the consequences for crop production. Parliamentary alliances against hunger and malnutrition. First Global Parliamentary Summit
For the third year in a row, hunger is on the rise again and affects 821 million people in the world. In addition, one third of the global population suffers from malnutrition. Eradicating hunger and malnutrition by 2030 requires strategies, public policies, national laws and programs that guarantee the right to adequate food for everyone, contribute to reducing poverty and improve people’s diets according to each country’s specific context.
