International Year of Pulses - Global Dialogue
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) organised a Global Dialogue (GD) on the International Year of Pulses 2016 at its headquarters in Rome, Italy from 22 to 23 November 2016. The GD provided a forum for various stakeholders in the pulses sector, to discuss the issues and the challenges related to the production, consumption and trade of pulses. It also generated a set of recommendations for concrete action and follow-up beyond 2016.
Objectives of the Global Dialogue:
- Review the year’s activities and outcomes - including the IYP Regional Dialogues, Online Fora, academic papers and advocacy activities.
- Identify knowledge gaps and research needs.
- Agree on common priorities for policy, advocacy and research related to pulses
- Formulate a coherent set of recommendations for the IYP beyond 2016 (in line with SDGs)
The two – day facilitated event brought together a wide spectrum of stakeholders and representatives of each region (Africa, Near East, Asia and the Pacific, Europe and Central Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean).
