REDD+ Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation

Gender mainstreaming

The three project’s focus areas are complemented by a component on gender mainstreaming, which aims to strengthen and advocate for the role of women in forestry across West Africa.

Women play an indispensable role in forest management across West Africa due to their specialized knowledge of local ecosystems and their vital contributions to the well-being of forest-dependent communities.

Therefore, the project places a strong emphasis on the integration of gender perspectives into all its forestry management initiatives to harness the invaluable insights, experiences, and contributions of women for the sustainable protection and utilization of these vital resources.
