The present project (TCP/LIB/3501) aims to assist the Libyan Veterinary Services’ to stop the spread of High Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI “H5N1”) and reduce its negative impact on human health and food security through reinforcement of management capacities of the current health crisis. 

Short-term actions are proposed to:

- Stop the spread of HPAI;

- Improve and set an adequate control strategy;

- Elaborate and implement an appropriate control strategy based on risk analysis;

- Elaborate and implement the contingency plan for the control of the disease;

- Support the Libyan veterinary authorities to improve and implement a disease monitoring strategy based on risk analysis especially the evaluation of the impact on public and animal health;

- Strengthen capacities of the Central Veterinary Laboratory (official laboratory) and regional laboratories for diagnosis of HPAI;

- Improve risk communication and support awareness campaign with all concerned stakeholders (animal and public health authorities, farmers, traders and consumers);

- Carry out risk analysis and elaborate and implement the contingency plan for the control of the disease. Stop the spread of HPAI;

Support the Libyan veterinary authorities to improve and implement a disease monitoring strategy based on risk analysis especially the evaluation of the impact on public and animal health.
