This side event, organized by FAO, the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad), the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the IPC Fisheries Working Group and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), explored the linkages between small-scale fisheries and relevant Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for the realization of the right to food.

This side event, jointly organized by the Ministry of Social Development of Brazil, the National Council on Food and Nutrition Security of Brazil (CONSEA), the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) and the UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food, aimed at raising awareness, sharing experiences and discussing the challenges involved in the development of national governance systems that help promoting the right to adequate food.

This side event, organized by the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), FAO and the Parliamentary Front against Hunger from Latin America and the Caribbean (PFH-LAC), allowed to exchange information and valuable lessons learned on parliamentarian initiatives to strengthen food security and nutrition.

The Second Conference against Hunger, organized at local level, was held on 1 June 2017 in Madrid at the Cibeles Centre for Culture and Citizenship with the participation of prominent political leaders, such as the Mayor of Madrid, Manuela Carmena, who highlighted in the course of the event the importance of evaluating policies to achieve an effective realization of the economic and social rights, including the right to adequate food. 

On the ground - 21.06.2017

On 17 and 18 May 2017, around 50 journalists from public and private institutions met in Lomé for the Constitutive General Assembly of a Network of Togolese Journalists empowered on right to food issues. Upon completion of the event, the National Network of Journalists on the right to adequate food had been established.
