7 June 2022, Rome- "Unsafe food often affects the poorest and the weakest, so improving food safety is critical to ensure we do not leave anyone behind", said FAO Director-General QU Dongyu in a video message delivered today on the fourth observance of the World Food Safey Day. "Everyone, everywhere hast the right to sufficient, safe and nutritious food", he added.
During the virtual to celebrate this Day, global leaders recognized that safe food is essential to human health and well-being. Only when food is safe can people fully benefit from its nutritional value and from the mental and social benefits of sharing a safe meal.
Food safety is everyone’s business - from governments and food businesses to scientific experts and consumers.
Guaranteen all people access to adequate food relates to a number of variables, including food safety standards. As such, the Right to Food Guidelines encouraged States to take measures to ensure that all food is safe and consistent with national food safety standards. It also supports consumer organizations in their work to strengthen the implementation of food safety standards, including the Codex Alimentarius, food labelling and other food controls to protect consumers.
