Decent Rural Employment

FAO Workshop to launch a Project in favour of Rural Youth Employment in Tunisia

04/11/2011

In Tunisia, youth unemployment and high prevalence of vulnerable population, especially in West end Central regions, has been the major cause of the revolution. The political upheaval in the country and in Libya has worsened the situation. It is essential and urgent for the success of the democratic transition process that the Government of Tunisia brings effective responses to this situation.

To support this process, FAO launched, jointly with APIA (Agence de Promotion des Investissements Agricoles), an emergency TCP project to support the creation of micro-enterprises in the agricultural sector for young vulnerable populations. The project will train the beneficiaries using the Junior Farmer Field and Life Schools (JFFLS) methodology and will support national and local institutions to build their capacities in the field of employment and to develop a longer term program for job creation for young women and men in the agricultural sector.

In the context of the inception mission of the project, two representatives of the Gender, Equity and Rural Employment Division of FAO participated in the event with a contribution on the JFFLS.
