Reducing food losses through improved postharvest management in Ethiopia - phase 1
The Swiss project is implementing loss reduction post-harvest activities in Oromia, Tigray, Amhara and SNNP regions including the development of a PH policy and strategy framework for the Ministry of Agriculture. It is in supporting the development of the policy and strategy framework that the Reporting Officer (RO) undertook this mission to Ethiopia.
Objective
Contributing to food and nutrition security through the reduction of crop post-harvest losses in Ethiopia and an outcome of reducing post-harvest grain losses in four target regions. The project is funded by Swiss Confederation.
Components and activities
The project has four components each with one or more outputs and several activities, all collectively striding to the realization of the project' overall goal. The outcomes/components of the project are:
1. Knowledge, attitude and practice of smallholder men and women farmers, development agents, youths and others on post-harvest management improved;
2. Human resource and institutional capacity on post-harvest management strengthened;
3. Food practice options for reducing post-harvest losses are compiled, disseminated and scaled up and out to small holder men and women farmers; and
4. Post-harvest management policy and strategy formulated.
