From traditional to innovative integrated aquaculture solutions – A success story from Chilimbene

In Mozambique 80 percent of people depend on agriculture and fisheries for their livelihood. Fisheries’decline in recent years has led to fish scarcity and increases of prices. Fish has slowly become a delicacy that only few could afford. Climate change and the COVID-19 pandemic added to the challenge of maintaining fragile food systems. FAO, with the support of the Graça Machel foundation is working to rebuild the systems in Chilimbene, placing aquaculture at the core of local agrifood systems’ transformation.
