Recipient / Target Areas Uganda
Objective / Goal This project aims at assessing the impact of the widely implemented model of community mobilization, known as "Dimitra clubs." These voluntary groups facilitate discussions on common issues and collaboratively develop solutions, challenging gender norms and enhancing social cohesion in rural communities.
Beneficiaries  Ten villages that have already adopted the Dimitra club model in 2023.
Activities Although FAO facilitates the establishment of Dimitra clubs and provides training and coaching, the clubs themselves are self-managed. The project focuses on working in rural and remote areas with high levels of poverty, food insecurity, weak social cohesion, and governance. Through inclusive consultation processes, the clubs promote community-led initiatives to address local challenges.
Impact The impact evaluation will encompass ten villages that have already adopted the Dimitra club model in 2023, along with an additional ten villages set to begin implementation in 2024. By challenging gender discriminatory norms and enhancing social cohesion, the Dimitra clubs contribute to poverty reduction, food security, and inclusive rural development.
