Dirt Science: An introduction to soil systems

Cranfield University in collaboration the British Society of Soil Science (BSSS) and the Soil Security Programme (SSP) are hosting a NERC advanced training course in soil science at Cranfield University in September.

This 5 day residential course is fully supported by NERC and is offered at no cost to the participant.  Participants will also be reimbursed for reasonable travel costs.

The course is open to all PhD and post-doctoral researchers studying soils or whose research is at the interface of soil science and other disciplines.Priority will be given to NERC-funded applicants but PhD and early career researchers funded by other streams can also apply.

The course offers participants an opportunity to:

1.    Develop systems thinking in soil science  through the concept of soil functions including the multi-functionality of soils in the environment

2.    Systematically characterise soils in the field and their potential functions

3.    Develop multidisciplinary approaches in soil science including devising a multidisciplinary research proposal for a key challenge in soil science research

4.    Translate soil science research for effective knowledge exchange and sound evidence for science policy

Please ensure you have permission from your supervisor/line manager to attend before applying as this is a 5 day residential course.

See flyer for full details of the week.
