FAOR Babagana Ahmadu on field visit to Kassala State

Kassala – The FAO representative to Sudan Mr Babagana Ahmadu visited Kassala State, 15 to 17 May 2018 with the objective of meeting assessing FAO projects and meeting with stakeholders beneficiaries for possible feedback.  FAOR met with the representatives from the rural communities and discussed and exchanged views with stakeholders on possible ways of addressing the impacts of climate change especially with regards to  food and water shortages. Kassala State is one of the regions worst hit by drought with severe impact of crop failure and poor pastures for livestock.. FAO has several development and emergency projects in Kassala State focusing on response to the current drought spell, value chain, bio fortification and capacity development at community and institution level.

During his official visit to Kassala the FAO representative had bilateral meetings with the Ministry of Agriculture, Forest and Irrigation, Ministry of Animal Resources, Fishery and Range, HAC and the Wali of Kassala discussing the priorities of FAO at national and state levels. Appreciating the FAOR visit and the FAO efforts in supporting Kassala communities, the ministry officials asked for more technical support and agriculture projects that can serve the farmers in the State.
