National workshop on Food Insecurity Experience Scale (FIES) data analysis in Cotonou (Benin)

27/05/2023 - 02/06/2023

FAO is delivering a training involving Government officers and FAO food security analysts on Food Insecurity Experience Scale (FIES) in Cotonou – Benin from May 27 to June 2, 2023. A meeting with the Director of INStaD is also scheduled.

As the custodian agency for SDG indicator 2.1.1 and 2.1.2, FAO promotes the adoption of the FIES and PoU methodologies by national governmental institutions and to train these institutions on data analysis and reporting. The full potential of the FIES and PoU to generate statistics that can inform policy is realized when the tools are applied in national population surveys. In particular, FIES enables detailed analyses of the food insecurity situation according to income, gender, age, race, ethnicity, migratory status, disability, geographic location, or other policy-relevant characteristics, as is already the case for a number of countries. Within this spirit, the “GCP/GLO/043/EC Strengthening Food Security Statistics at country level to monitor Target 2.1 of the 2030 Agenda” allows to deliver a training of FIES methodology.

Expected Outcomes:

Participants are explained the FIES methodology and are trained in running FIES analysis.

To understand the calendar of implementation of the different surveys and engage with different country institutions, in particular with INStaD, SAGSA, and DSA, to identify possible areas of work in the domain of food security monitoring on which FAO could support the country for both annual and recent food insecurity.

Participants :

16 participants from 4 institutions are attending the workshop.
