National workshop on SDG indicators 2.1.1 and 2.1.2 in Amman (Jordan)

19/11/2023 - 23/11/2023

FAO is organising a technical capacity building workshop to strengthen the capacity of the Department of Statistics (DoS) in Jordan to understand and calculate the SDG 2.1 Indicators: SDG 2.1.1 PoU (Prevalence of Undernourishment) and SDG 2.1.2 (Prevalence of moderate and severe food insecurity combined, based on FIES - Food Insecurity Experience Scale) from 19 to 23 of November 2023 in Amman, Jordan.

FAO being the custodian agency for SDG indicator for target 2.1., supports the efforts of the countries in monitoring target 2.1 “by 2030 end hunger and ensure access by all people, in particular the poor and people in vulnerable situations including infants, to safe, nutritious and sufficient food all year round”. The workshop aims to provide the theoretical and technical understanding of both the indicators to national stakeholders. In addition, the workshop would also demonstrate analysis of the food consumption microdata of the household income and expenditure survey 2017-18 to (a) update one of key PoU parameters (the coefficient of variation due to income and other factors) for the use in the production of PoU in the next edition of FAO SOFI_2024, and (b) produce food and nutrient statistics.

Expected Outcomes:

  • Improved capacity among key national stakeholders for understanding the theoretical foundations of PoU and FIES, using pptx presentations and training materials to be provided in PDF, Word and Excel formats.
  • Hands-on experience for participants in applying PoU methodology, by computing its key variables such as Average Dietary Energy Consumption (DEC) using food consumption microdata of the household income and expenditure survey 2017-18.
  • Understanding of FIES strengthened by conducting analysis of FIES data using FAO’s FIES Shiny-app tool.
  • A general advocacy and introductory presentation of F&D would introduce the domain, its importance in the effort to closing data gaps on statistics availability for evidence-based policies and programs towards food security and nutrition improvement.

Participants:

The training is being attended by 13 technical experts from the Department of Statistics (DoS) in Jordan.
