National workshop on SDG indicators 2.1.1 and 2.1.2 in Bagdad (Iraq)

19/05/2024 - 23/05/2024

FAO is hosting a national workshop on SDG indicators 2.1.1 "Prevalence of Undernourishment" and 2.1.2 "Prevalence of moderate or severe food insecurity, based on the Food Insecurity Experience Scale (FIES)" in Baghdad (Iraq) from May 19 to May 23.

As the custodian agency for SDG indicators 2.1.1 and 2.1.2, FAO supports the efforts of the countries in monitoring target 2.1 “by 2030 end hunger and ensure access by all people, in particular the poor and people in vulnerable situations including infants, to safe, nutritious and sufficient food all year round”. The workshop aims to provide technical support to the Central Statistical Organization (CSO), Kurdistan Regional Statistics Office (KRSO) and other national institutions related to food security indicators in Iraq in applying FAO’s standard statistical methods, as the custodian agency for indicators 2.1.1 and 2.1.2. The support will also include deriving estimates for both indictors based on the data that have been still collecting through the Iraq Household and Social Economic Survey 2023.

Expected outcomes:

To strengthen the capacity of CSO, KRSO and other related stakeholders in Iraq in analyzing food security and nutrition data and produce meaningful and reliable indicators to inform SDG monitoring frameworks, policy decision making and to guide food security policies and interventions.

Participants:

15 participants from 4 institutions are attending the workshop.
