National workshop on SDG indicators 2.1.1 and 2.1.2 in Chisinau (Moldova)

A technical workshop on SDG food security indicators is being conducted by FAO during 3-9 December 2023 in Chisinau, Moldova.

FAO is conducting this training to support the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) of the Republic of Moldova to strengthen the capacity of their technical staff to (a) calculate the SDG 2.1 Indicators: SDG 2.1.1 PoU (Prevalence of Undernourishment) and get familiarized with the SDG 2.1.2 FIES (Prevalence of moderate and severe food insecurity combined, based on FIES - Food Insecurity Experience Scale) indicator, as well as (b) discuss the improvements required for food consumption and nutrition data collection, such as questionnaire improvements, the integration of the FIES module in the Household Budget Survey and accordingly data collection and analysis.

Expected Outcomes:

  • The training sessions would build the capacity of the national staff for estimating both SDG food security indicators using the consolidated FAO methodologies.
  • Use of nationally available food consumption microdata would be recommended to update the parameters that are needed for the global monitoring of the SDG 2.1.1 indicator.
  • After explaining the use of FIES methodology for estimating prevalence of food insecurity in the country, the importance of collecting the FIES data regularly in a nationally household survey for reporting on SDG 2.1.2 would be emphasized and made to realise by the national officials.

The training is being attended by 15 participants from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
