National workshop on SDG indicators 2.1.1 and 2.1.2 in Dili (Timor-Leste)

06/11/2023 - 10/11/2023

FAO is conducting a technical workshop during 6-10 November 2023 in Dili, Timor-Leste to enhance the capacity of national stakeholders on food security SDG indicators, i.e. 2.1.1 - Prevalence of Undernourishment (PoU) and 2.1.2 Prevalence of moderate or severe food insecurity based on Food Insecurity Experience Scale (FIES).

The workshop is being conducted in response to the request of Instituto Nacional de Estatistica de Timór-Leste, (INETL), through FAO Representation, for providing technical assistance on the food security SDG indicators. The workshop aims to explain the theoretical and technical concepts of SDG indicators, 2.1.1 (PoU) and 2.1.2 (FIES) and to do a hands-on training for computing the PoU indicator using HIES 2014-15 and the prevalence of moderate or severe food insecurity using the FIES data collected in NNS-2020 for Timor Leste.

Expected Outcomes:

  • Participants understand FAO methodologies for PoU and FIES indicators, their theoretical foundations, data interpretation and analysis techniques.
  • Hands-on experience for participants by going through the STATA routines for HIES-2014-15 strengthen the capacity of the national officials in calculating PoU for the next survey round in 2024. Collection of FIES data has also been included in the next national survey, hence understanding calculation of FIES would enable them in computing FIES estimates independently.
  • Introduction to FAO’s new initiative, the Food and Diet Domain, to the participants would enable them to appreciate the importance of construction of national level nutrient conversion tables for food items.

Participants:

The training is being attended by 21 participants from various national ministries, FAO country office and staff members of UN-RCO, UNICEF, and UNDP.
