Technical workshop on measuring and reporting SDG Indicator 2.4.1 in Burundi

FAO supports countries in understanding the main concepts underlying the methodology for data collection, production of SDG indicator 2.4.1 as well as the preparation of reports on this indicator for use in the analysis of national policies. Starting in April 2023, FAO worked with Burundi to organize and conduct the SDG 2.4.1 pilot survey. In August 2023, an SDG 2.4.1 pilot study was carried out in Burundi. The objective was to test the methodology to see if in the future questions related to SDG 2.4.1 can be integrated into Burundi's agricultural survey instruments to ensure that the country regularly reports on this indicator.

In order to close the pilot activities of SDG 2.4.1, FAO is organizing a physical technical workshop in November 2023 for Burundian staff.

Objectives
The overall objective of the physical workshop is to provide practical training to Burundi national staff (responsible for monitoring the SDGs) on SDG indicator 2.4.1. More specifically, the 4-day physical workshop was organized to:

• Train participants on methodology, data collection instruments, data collection, analysis and interpretation of SDG indicator 2.4.1.
• Train INSBU and Ministry of Agriculture staff in the calculation (step by step) of the 11 sub-indicators forming the framework of SDG 2.4.1.
• Present the pilot survey activities, including results, challenges and recommendations.
• Discuss country plans to scale up indicator reporting at the national level.
• Share good practices and experiences.

Expected results
This physical workshop will help participants understand the methodology, data collection and analysis to calculate SDG indicator 2.4.1. More specifically, the expected results are as follows:

• Participants understand the methodology and data collection tools for SDG indicator 2.4.1.
  
• Participants analyze data for 11 sub-indicators using Stata software.
  
• Participants can reproduce the dashboard and aggregate indicator 2.4.1.

Participants
The workshop will bring together agricultural statisticians from the National Institute of Statistics in Burundi and the Ministry of Agriculture.
