Under what Conditions are Value Chains Effective Tools for Pro-Poor Development?

2011

The vital question of understanding how to link poor smallholders to a diversity of local, provincial, regional and global markets and value chains is an important consideration  along with identifying and targeting which markets can benefit smallholder farmers. These aspects contend not only local community development but also and importantly wider poverty reduction strategies.  The document is based-around critical questions such as “Do poor smallholder farmers benefit from participation in formal value chains?” “What are the strategies for leveraging market access opportunities to increase development impact?”
