Market Development for Disaster Risk Reduction: Kazipur Value Chain Analysis

2012

The study presents how a market-oriented approach can contribute to disaster risk reduction efforts. This was aimed at the poor and the most vulnerable in the Kazipur area, Bangladesh. Recovery market systems are perceived in the study to entail recovery value chains which have the potential to bring about economic benefits as well as relief/reconstruction impacts. Four value chains were analysed within this study: chili and cattle - the two economic chains, and Chira (flattened rice or beaten rice) and tube wells (water wells) - the two recovery chains.
