Pro-Poor Rural Value-Chain Development - Thematic Study

2013

The publication looks at the International Fund for Agricultural Development’s (IFAD) experience in developing projects with a value chain development approach. In this particular study a rural perspective is taken on the value chain development approach. The main aim of the study is to learn from these experiences and within this context take a view to improving the design of future interventions by IFAD.  The study also draws on lessons from experiences of other donors as well as those of private sector companies operating in rural areas. The 22 cases that were analyzed include ten projects funded by IFAD, eight financed by other donors, two initiated by large private sector operators, and two supported by national governments.
