The Maize Value Chain in Tanzania - A Report from the Southern Highlands Food Systems Programme

2015

Although maize is the staple food for most of the Tanzanian population, its chain is primarily affected by uncertainty, lack of inputs, coordination and information. This report takes into account the constraints and through an in-depth analysis of the entire chain, with a particular focus on the role of private sector, proposes a development strategy. It proposes the implementation of a National Maize Development Strategy, strengthening the existing maize value chains and developing new markets, and importantly promoting green growth within the sub-sector.
