The report is one of four studies and summarizes the results of a rapid assessment survey on invasive woody plant species in the Western Indian Ocean region commissioned by the Forestry Section of the Seychelles, Ministry of Environment, on behalf of the Forestry Department of FAO.
This case study presents an analysis of the invasion of alien species in the islands of Réunion. It tells the story of invasion from the analysis of the invasiveness and degree of invasion to the analysis of economic/environmental impacts and measures for restoration. The study is concluded expressing the need for awareness raising and legislative framework (so far there is no specific legislation applicable to invasive species).
