Trillion trees white paper: Defining the real cost of restoring forests - Practical steps towards improving cost estimates

Year of publication 2022
An accurate, transparent estimation of the resources needed to deliver quality forest landscape restoration is a crucial part of what must inform decision makers and implementers around the world as they strive to deliver the aspiration of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration. This joint effort from Trillion Trees partners aims to augment the evidence-based case for significantly increased global investment in order to deliver high-quality forest restoration. The White Paper proposes five considerations for effectively costing forest restoration, with the aim of ensuring projects better reflect the true costs of implementing good practice. It does so while setting out context, the need for and the parameters of research that our partnership will undertake to help establish a realistic calculation of the costs to deliver high-quality sustainable forest restoration, grounded in the Forest and Landscape Restoration principles.
