Crop festival: No Food Left Behind

The ‘First Crop Festival’ of a crop festival series is organized by FAO in partnership with Turkey’s Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry under the ‘Save Your Food’ campaign and to mark the International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste.

The festival will take place on 25-26 September in Izmir, Turkey aims to increase understanding of food waste reduction by directly engaging the society into rescuing fresh, surplus fruits and vegetables from farms that would be otherwise wasted and ensure redistribution.

Follow the live stream at 10:00-11:00 a.m. (Ankara time) on SAVE YOUR FOOD’s FacebookYouTube and Twitter accounts

The two-day event will start with a virtual panel to discuss common challenges and barriers of food loss and waste reduction, and inspire local governments, NGOs to rescue fresh, nutritious produce and ensure their delivery to local agricultural cooperatives, food banks, and other platforms for redistribution, followed by a gleaning activity with youth volunteers and Turkish actress and activist Zeynep Tuğçe Bayat.

On the next day, in the ‘Save Your Food kitchen workshop’, prominent chef Sahrap Soysal will prepare waste-free menus and show easy tips for cooking without any waste.

The crop festival series will continue in other cities during the harvest season.

The event is part of the project “Reduction of food loss and waste in Central Asia, Azerbaijan and Turkey,” funded by the Government of Turkey within the framework of the FAO-Turkey Partnership Programme on Food and Agriculture.
