Ankara - The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Turkey continues its activities despite the Covid-19 pandemic, which affected the whole world. FAO held a workshop titled “Child Labor and Agricultural Livelihood Sources” last Thursday. Over 60 participants attended the workshop, including representatives from FAO, UN, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Services, and food and agriculture sectors.

Child Labor in seasonal agricultural work among Syrians Under Temporary Protection in Turkey and Host Communities (Turkish people) and relevant legislation were discussed in the workshop, which was held online due to the pandemic. The participants pointed out that the pandemic affected food and agriculture sectors as in all sectors, and warned that child labor could increase due to the pandemic. They discussed more effective ways to prevent child labor in agriculture in the workshop. All agreed that the focus should be increasing rural families' income. The participants called for a more inclusive national and international cooperation as well as for a more effective implementation of relevant laws.
