Since 2005, the City of Medellin has a public policy for food and nutrition (Food and Nutrition Security Plan), which includes a variety of actions such as providing food to the most vulnerable groups (Medellin Solidaria). This includes communitarian restaurants for the elderly; the promotion of family and community gardens; the promotion of research on food practices and ancestral knowledge; and the implementation of educational activities including gastronomic workshops or trainings on healthy habits in schools.
