in the Context of Food Security and Poverty Eradication

SSF Guidelines/VGGT Training Workshop in Brazil

18/06/2018 - 21/06/2018

Movimento dos pescadores e pescadoras artesanais (MPP), in collaboration with the World Forum of Fisher Peoples (WFFP), other organizations representing traditional small-scale fisheries communities in Brazil and guests from WFFP member countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, co-organized a workshop to promote knowledge on documents representing international consensus on how policy, legal and regulatory frameworks should be designed in order to ensure responsible governance of tenure and promote, defend and support the contribution of small-scale fisheries to food security and sustainable food systems.

The workshop aimed to raise awareness on and understanding of the VGGT and SSF Guidelines and to help local communities take ownership of these two instruments in defense of their rights and livelihood, as well as to reinforce linkages and collaborations between organizations of small-scale fishers and fish workers in Latin America and the Caribbean.
